Brief info
Ever thought of being in a Viking warband? Here we join a member of such a war band sneaking across Scotland!
Tohma is out scouting for new places to ‘visit’ with a friendly band of warriors.
Find out how Vikings got to Scotland, what did they do once they got here, what weapons and kit they carried with them and what they got up to while they were here.
Examine how they survived, lit fires or find food?
Hear what their ships were like, what food they ate while they travelled and what made them want to leave their homeland?
Costume/Props/Equipment - Weapons rack with a selection of Viking age weapons including swords, axes, spears and bow and arrow. Viking age helmets, shields and chainmail.
A selection of fire lighting equipment including flint and steel, dried moss, mushrooms and other plant material, Linen under kirtle, wool over kirtle, linen trousers, woollen leg wraps and leather shoes, leather belt, woollen cloak and linen hood
Oak planks showing how ships were ‘clinker built’ and a selection of branches with different shapes to show how wood was selected for ship construction
Activities Fire lighting – use a flint and steel to make sparks
Shield wall – make your own shield wall and learn the commands.
Boar snout – learn how to form an offensive shield wall formation
Object handing – handle swords, axes and spears
