History Matters Ltd

From humble beginnings as members of the The Historic Saltire Society, History Matters Limited was founded in 2011 in the Scottish Highlands.

Evolving to become a company specialising in multi-period events, we now specialise in all time periods from Scotland's history, with our interests ranging from the Neolithic to the Second World War.

Members of our team are spread throughout the whole UK and love the adventure of seeing new locations, as we bring History to life.

Our Story

Having moved back to Scotland, we were lucky enough to be invited to join an incredible group of people called The Historic Saltire Society, whose founding policy was to make give people from all walks of life a chance to ‘live Scottish History’ in a fun, informative and affordable way. All these years later, we’re still out and about with the best not-for-profit re-enactment group in the world!

2009 was a really important year for the concept that would become History Matters Ltd two years later. While mainly concentrating on the Scots Wars of Independence through the Saltire, we were then lucky enough to be asked by other professional re-enactment companies to help them with their presentations in a multi-period format.

It was a steep learning curve that saw us at various events as different time period specific characters, which we absolutely loved being involved with and for the opportunities that we were given, which we’re still extremely grateful for to this day.

Taking skills that we had all learned through the Saltire and applying them to History Matters Ltd’s formation in 2011, the next 5 years found us beginning to create and supply events to a diverse range of clients in the Education, Private and Public sectors.

By 2017 to the present day, our professional team were being asked to provide costumed historical interpretation across all time periods, ranging from the Iron Age to the Napoleonic Wars, at loads of different locations throughout Scotland, England and Germany.
