Join our 9th Century Pictish warrior Calgac, who’s come straight from the court of Kenneth MacAlpine to tell you about the momentous events that have seen the Kingdoms of Dalriada and the Picts merge to become Alba and what that means for the local people here.
Learn about life growing up in this region’s Iron Age village and what daily life was like on campaign in the army.
Activities – Learn how to draw Ogham script for ‘writing’ in Pictish times. Learn how to make Woad for preparing for battle. Weapons handling (when and where appropriate).
Props/Costume/Equip – Writing boards with Ogham script, blue face paint to represent Woad, wood carvings representing Pictish monument carvings. Replica clothing including Tunic, leather belt, wool moccasins and brooch. Weapons including Sword, shield, dagger, axe and knife. Artifacts including arrowheads and jewellery. Stone and leather working tools. Deer skins. Canvas tent (location dependent)
