Brief info
Join our stonemason James, to hear about life working stone in 14th Century Scotland. Hear about the path a stonemason takes from being an apprentice, then journeyman to eventually becoming a master. Learn about the evolution of stonework in castle building from the Motte and Baily to the huge Norman influenced castles of today.
Activities – Help our Stonemason to decipher some of the architect’s plans. Join in with some of the stories that he’ll tell. Tools handling (when and where appropriate).
Props/Costume/Equip – Replica clothing including cloak, linen tunic, leather apron, hose, braes, leather shoes. Tools – chisels, hammers. Stone. Architect’s plans. Authentic based lunch. Wooden stool. Canvas awning/tent (Location dependent).
