Join our scribe Margaret and learn about the role of a calligraphy tutor in 14th Century Scotland with her having taught the noble family that live in this castle. Learn about the different scripts that were used as writing evolved throughout the centuries. Watch Dawn as she teaches you how to prepare a quill for writing with and then as she writes your name in Calligraphy onto a bookmark for you to take home with you as a memento of your visit. Learn how to make your own ink and paper to have a go when you get home.
Activities – Interactive Q&A session for learning how to make a quill, paper or vellum and ink and how to write in medieval script (at home)
Props/Costume/Equip – Replica clothing including veil, circlet, wimple, underdress, overdress and kirtle. Quill, reed pen and parchment for note taking Wooden stool. Canvas tent (location dependent).
